NEC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Preston Thompson, Sr., M, Stonehill
Nashua, NH/Nashua
In a 2-0 week for Stonehill, Thompson tallied seven points while playing a part in four of the Skyhawks’ nine goals scored last week. The senior midfielder started the weekend off with a bang as he turned a hat trick during a 6-1 triumph of Chicago State on Thursday afternoon. His performance against the Cougars marked the first goal and hat trick of his collegiate career. Thompson also dished on an assist on Stonehill’s second score of the match early in the first half. The Nashua, NH native is one of 10 players nationwide to total at least seven points in a single match and the only NEC athlete. Thompson is also the only player in the conference to record a hat trick this season. The veteran middie joins Killian Doherty as the only Skyhawks to take home NEC Player of the Week accolades this season.

NEC MEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Matheus Guimaraes, Fr., F, New Haven
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Guimaraes netted both goals in New Haven’s nail-biting 2-2 draw against Chicago State on Sunday afternoon. The freshman forward opened the scoring in the 22nd minute to give the Chargers an early advantage. Facing a 2-1 deficit, Guimaraes clutched up with 30 seconds left to play as he found the back of the net and secured a point for New Haven. His game-tying goal kept New Havens unbeaten conference mark alive. The Brazil native is the first Charger to notch a multi-goal outing in the program’s Division I era. Guimaraes leads all NEC rookies with four goals on the season. New Haven has, now, had a NEC Rookie of the Week selection in its first two seasons in the league.
