NEC MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Walid Jarfani, LIU
Sr., Distance, Settat, Morocco/ALLAL AL FASSI Qualifying Secondary School
Claiming back-to-back NEC Track Athlete of the Week awards, Jarfani showed out again while competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State over the weekend. The senior distance runner clocked a new personal-best in the 1500m with a 3:45.88 to finish 48th at the elite Raleigh Relays. His 1500m time ranks first on the NEC performance list and is 61st in the nation. Jarfani added a 1:52.25 800m showing to place 62nd at the meet and come in at fifth in the conference and 168th in Division I. The Morocco native is the first LIU athlete to take home multiple NEC Track Athlete of the Week accolades in the same season since Momodou Sey in 2022.

NEC MEN’S CO-FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Phillip Baynes Jr., LIU
Jr., Jumps, Social Circle, GA
Baynes Jr. leaped 15.25m in the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend. The junior jumper placed seventh at the meet as his distance leads all NEC athletes. Additionally, the mark is 32nd in NCAA Division I. His new personal record is 0.58 meters longer than his gold medal jump at last season’s NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This is Baynes Jr.’s first career NEC Field Athlete of the Week honor. 

Christopher Milillo, Wagner
Sr., Throws, Yonkers, NY/Iona Prepatory Upper School
Competing at the 30th Annual Monmouth Season Opener, Milillo threw his way to NEC Field Athlete of the Week laurels. The senior launched the hammer 62.07m to win gold at the event and post the best mark in the conference. His distance also sits at 48th nationally. Milillo’s new personal-best in the hammer throw is 0.62 meters longer than his gold medal-winning distance at last season’s conference championships. This is Milillo’s first NEC Field Athlete of the Week award on the outdoor circuit.

NEC MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Faustin Kaseba, Chicago State
Fr., Sprints Atlanta, GA/Loganville
Kaseba ran a personal and conference-best in the 100m hurdles last week. Running at the Raleigh Relays, the freshman placed 25th at the highly competitive event with a 14.74 mark, which ranks 188th in the country. Since making its NEC debut a season ago, Kaseba is Chicago State’s first NEC Rookie of the Week selection on the outdoor circuit. During the indoor season, Kaseba collected two rookie of the week awards.

NEC WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maegan Desmarais, Central Connecticut
Sr., Distance, Thomaston, CT/Thomaston

Making her outdoor season debut, Desmarais wasted no time making some noise for the Blue Devils. The senior distance runner clocked a 10:25.58 3000m Steeplechase time to place 22nd at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend. Her mark is the best in the conference and sits at 21st on the national performance list. This is Desmarais’ first career NEC Track Athlete of the Week award.

NEC WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maya Marin, Central Connecticut

Earning her second career NEC Field Athlete of the Week selection, Marin posted two top throws in the conference. The sophomore tossed the discus 42.13m to finish 24th at the Raleigh Relays while throwing the javelin 40.65m to finish 17th. Marin’s first NEC Field Athlete of the Week award came on April 2 of last year. Marin added three NEC Rookie of the Week awards to her name last season, while being tabbed the Most Outstanding Rookie as last season's championship meet. 

NEC WOMEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Sonjay Baylor-Reeves, LIU

Collecting back-to-back NEC Rookie of the Week honors, Baylor-Reeves continued her hot start to the outdoor season at the 30th Annual Monmouth Season Opener last week. The freshman put up a 13.54m shot put mark to win the bronze at the meet, rank second in the conference to her previous season-best and sit 193rd on the national performance list. Baylor-Reeves added another third-place finish in the discus with a PR of 41.10m, which is second in the league. She also launched the hammer 45.27m to place sixth at the Monmouth-hosted competition and rank fifth in the NEC. Baylor-Reeves is the first LIU athlete to earn multiple NEC Rookie of the Week awards in the same season since Monica Akello in 2010
