NEC women's soccer summary

Wagner broke through in 2025, knocked off CCSU in double overtime in Staten Island to capture the program's first NEC Championship. Howard swept the regular season and tournament crowns in 2024, each being a first for the program. In a match that featured a pair of double overtime goals, it took PKs for CCSU to outlast Wagner and claim its 13th NEC title in 2023. FDU ended CCSU's title streak at four in 2022, emerging from the No. 4 seed. CCSU began another golden era in women's soccer starting in 2018 with the first of four straight titles that upped their program total to a league-best twelve. In 2019, the Blue Devils knocked off Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Saint Francis U won it all in 2016 and 2017, the latter coming over FDU in PKs. FDU won its first NEC championship following a perfect 8-0 regular season in 2015. CCSU captured its eighth NEC title in 2013 with a 2-0 win over FDU in the 2014 final. Saint Francis U won its second NEC title in 2013, beating LIU Brooklyn, 1-0.  It marked the fourth straight year the two teams have met in the conference final. In 2012, LIU Brooklyn made it back-to-back NEC championships, once again edging Saint Francis U, 1-0.  The Blackbirds and Red Flash had met for the second straight year with the NEC title at stake in 2011, and it was the Blackbirds who came away victorious in PKs after the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw. Saint Francis U earned its first NEC championship in 2010, then took Ohio State to double overtime the following week in NEC Tournament play. Monmouth won it all for the second time in three years in 2009 with a 1-0 overtime win over Central Connecticut State.  CCSU had claimed its seventh NEC title with a 1-0 triumph over Long Island in 2008.  Monmouth earned its third overall championship and first since 1996 following a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart in 2007. After a runner-up finish a year earlier, Long Island took home its second league title in 2006 with a 2-0 win over Monmouth.  Central Connecticut State won its fourth straight NEC women's soccer championship in 2005, ousting Long Island, 1-0.  It was the sixth overall crown for the Blue Devils, the most of any program in league annals.  CCSU defeated Monmouth via penalty kicks in 2002, and stopped Sacred Heart via penalty kicks in both 2003 and 2004.  In 2003, the Blue Devils became the first women's soccer team in NEC history to win an NCAA Tournament game with a 1-0 triumph over Boston College in the first round. After entering the tournament as the #4 seed, Sacred Heart won its first NEC title in any sport in 2001, besting UMBC, 1-0, in the title game.  One year earlier, Quinnipiac accomplished the same exact feat with a 4-0 win over Monmouth.  Long Island ended Central Connecticut State's two-year reign as NEC Tournament champ in 1999, and went on to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Southwest Texas State in an NCAA Play-In match.  The Blackbirds entered the 1999 tourney as the #4 seed, upset regular season champion CCSU in the semifinals and defeated Quinnipiac, 1-0, in the title game.  The Blue Devils had stopped Monmouth's two-year reign in 1997.  CCSU played in the NEC's first play-in contest in 1997 and represented the conference in the NCAA Tournament in 1998.  Former Monmouth star Christie Pearce, a two-time NEC Player of the Year (1995-1996), is a member of the U.S. National Team and a member of the inaugural NEC Hall of Fame class.  Pearce hold the NEC season records in goals (29), assists (17) and points (75).  Following the 2005 season, CCSU's Denise Thomas joined former Blue Devils Jane McFarlane (1997-00) and Jackie Hadden (1996-99), along with Monmouth's Tereza Perpinan (1995-98), as the only NEC players to be named all-conference four straight years.  Monmouth's Ali Kliment was named a third team 2011 Capital One Academic All-American. Saint Francis U's Tesa McKibben became the first player in NCAA history to earn Conference Player of the Year honors all four years, winning the honor each season from 2010-13.
