Brooklyn, NY — Wagner’s rally train made one final stop before history was made on Saturday.

Coming from behind to take down No. 2 Central Connecticut and No. 1 LIU to earn a spot in Saturday’s championship game, the third-seeded Seahawks clawed back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat the Blue Devils and claim the program’s first-ever NEC Tournament title.

The Seahawks, who saw an early 2-0 lead get wiped off the board thanks to a three-run homer by Joslyn Teal and a solo shot by Ashlyn Desaulniers, got one run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI by third baseman Sydnie Trujillo

Wagner’s rally continued in the sixth inning. Second baseman Leilani Gonzales doubled to lead off the frame before she pulled the two teams even in the next at-bat, scoring on an Addison Day base hit. With runners on the corners and two out, Geanice Morales pushed the go-ahead run — and eventual winning score — across the plate on a single to right field.

NEC Pitcher of the Year Karson Zavala helped the Seahawks seal the deal in the title game. Throwing two scoreless and hitless innings out of the bullpen, she got Wagner out of a jam by retiring each of the first three batters she faced in the top of the sixth before closing the door on the Blue Devils in the seventh.

The win marked her 11th of the season.

Just three days after she took home All-NEC first team distinction,Trujillo was pegged the NEC Most Valuable Player. Going 7-for-10 at the plate, she racked up seven RBI during Wagner’s title run.

The NEC All-Tournament Team, which also included Trujillo, featured Gonzales, Zavala and Samantha Lotus.

Central Connecticut, which made its second title game appearance since 2024, finished with a 28-19 record.

Wagner’s (22-26) journey continues with the NCAA Tournament Regionals, which will be announced on Sunday, May 10 at 7 p.m. during the Selection Show on ESPN2.
