New Britain, CT — Central Connecticut used a slew of strong performances on the track to break away from the 10-team field and capture the NEC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field title for the second time in program history at CCSU Track and Field Facility on Sunday.
With Sunday’s banner raising day, the Blue Devils pulled off the unofficial 2025-26 NEC triple crown. Claiming the NEC cross country title in October, Central Connecticut hoisted the NEC indoor track and field trophy before running it back as outdoor champs.
CCSU won the meet by 76.5 points, finishing with 182 for the two-day meet.
Racking up 105.5 points, Saint Francis ranked second on the team leaderboard, while Stonehill followed suit with 96 points. Chicago State and FDU rounded out the top-half in the championship standings after tying for fourth place with 94 points.
The Blue Devils were powered by senior
Meagan Desmaris, who medaled in all three of the NEC’s grueling distance races to take home both the NEC Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) and the NEC Most Valuable Performer awards. Opening the meet by earning gold in the 10,000m (36:20.04), she also struck gold in the 3,000m (10:42.71) steeplechase before capping off the weekend with a bronze-medal performance in the 5,000m (17:28.28).
The Blue Devils racked up five gold medals in Sunday’s track events, including a one-two finish in the 800m race by juniors
Mya Morabito (2:16.98) and
Rachel Bartolucci (2:17.42), to blow open a 20-point advantage following the championship’s opening day of competition on Saturday and solidify Central Connecticut's first outdoor title run since 2019. Sophomore
Kyrah Smith (57.02) also produced a gold medal in the 400m while the 4x400m (3:54.84) squad also on top of the podium for the Blue Devils.
Freshman
Sonjay Baylor-Reeves doubled up on the major awards for LIU. With three podium finishes, including a first place showing in the shot put (14.36m), she was pegged the NEC Outstanding Field Performer (Throws) and the NEC Rookie of the Meet.
Wagner was home to the NEC Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints) after
Christine Manneh was first to cross in both the 100m (12.00) and 200m (24.55) races, while Chicago State saw
Lena Cleveland, who won the long jump (5.66m) and was the runner-up in the triple jump (11.79m), earn the title of Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps).
