Syracuse, NY — Stonehill is flying high.
Upending No. 1 and fellow regular season co-champ Le Moyne (14-4) by a 15-8 final on Saturday on Ted Grant Field, the second-seeded Skyhawks (13-6) soared to their first-ever NEC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament title.
A pair of rookies guided the Skyhawks to new altitudes, as
Taylor Green and NEC Rookie of the Year
Sophia Gouveia netted four goals apiece to lead all scorers.
Stonehill, which secured the NEC’s AQ to the Big Dance with Thursday’s NEC semifinal win over LIU, rides a hot streak into its inaugural NCAA Division I Tournament appearance. Since falling to Le Moyne, 11-9, in its first conference game of the year, and lone defeat of the league slate, the Skyhawks have gone red-hot with wins in each of their last 10 contests.
After Le Moyne came out of the gates firing to the tune of a 2-0 lead, momentum quickly shifted in favor of Stonehill and it would remain there for most of the remainder of the contest.
With 8:55 left in the first, Gouveia buried her first of four scores to ignite a four-goal rally with 14:15 left until halftime.
Emily Noel stopped the bleeding for the Dolphins and pulled her squad within one, but the Skyhawks would catch fire again, this time netting four-straight scores to close out the half with an 8-3 lead.
Stonehill’s lead ballooned to as many as nine in the closing seconds of the third thanks to a Gouveia extra-person opportunity, and from there, the Skyhawks held on to add NEC Tournament champions to its lengthy list of accomplishments in 2026.
Skyhawks’ netminder
Nina Tremote, an All-NEC second team selection, was tremendous between the pipes. Rejecting nine shots, including four in a pivotal second quarter that saw Stonehill flip the switch with a 5-1 run, the junior was pegged the Most Valuable Player of the NEC Tournament.
Tremonte also earned NEC All-Tournament Team distinction, where she was joined by fellow teammates Gouveia, Julia Kogan and Maia Parker.
The Skyhawks learn their postseason opponent during the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament Selection Show, which is set to air at 9 p.m. on Sunday on ESPNU.
