NEC Champion Duquesne Draws Nebraska In NCAA Bowling Regional

Pittsburgh, PA -- Fresh off capturing the NEC women's bowling title, Duquesne will square off against Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament Pittsburgh Regional on Friday, April 3.

The Dukes will meet the Cornhuskers at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes, alongside No. 3 overall seed Arkansas State, and the winner of the Opening Round matchup between Saint Vincent and Belmont Abbey.

Duquesne earned an automatic bid to the dance after claiming the program’s first-ever NEC title on Sunday, going a perfect 3-0 in the conference tournament to punch its ticket. The NEC co-regular season champions enter their third NCAA Tournament in four years will a 62-43 overall record, notching a number of marquee wins over the campaign. The Dukes hold wins over seven teams in the field, with the most impressive of the bunch coming over Arkansas State, No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech, Nebraska and Youngstown State.

Duquesne and Nebraska met twice this season, with each team collecting a win. Duquesne took the first match on Jan. 16 at the Northeast Classic, besting the Cornhuskers, 874-861.

The Dukes, ranked 20th in the most recent NTCA Coaches Poll, will be led into their Regional matchup by All-NEC first team selections Maribeth Baker and Emma Siekierski. Baker, recently tabbed an IBMA/STORM Collegiate Bowler of the Year finalist, led the NEC in Baker frame average (20.72) during league play. The junior from York, PA was second in overall strike percentage (54.2) and fourth in PCPI (84.70). Baker also bowled 100 percent of Duquesne’s frames this season. Siekierski also bowled 100 percent of her team’s frames, leading the NEC in PCPI (94.18), and makeable spare percentage (88.5).

The winner of the Pittsburgh Regional will meet the other three regional winners in the NCAA Tournament finals on March 10-11 in Parma Heights, OH.
