Hamilton Township, NJ -- After knocking on the door in recent years, Duquesne rolled a strike on Championship Sunday, capturing its first-ever NEC Women's Bowling title with a 2-0 win over Mercyhurst at Hamilton Lanes & Entertainment Center in Hamilton Township, NJ.

After posting 2-0 wins in its opening two matches of the meet, the second-seeded Dukes stayed red-hot, started the final with a 975-926 win over the fourth-seeded Lakers in the traditional leg, putting them just one leg away from glory. A trio of bowlers paved the path to victory for the Dukes. Jazmyn Scott caught fire from the leadoff spot, recording six strikes and a team-best 221 pinfall. Taylor Miller posted seven strikes from the No. 2 slot and knocked down 205 pins, while Emma Siekierski notched five strikes and bowled a 202 as the No. 4.

The co-regular season champions capitalized on their momentum by racing out to a 95-pin lead over the first two games of the quint Baker leg, knocking down 219 pins in each. After Mercyhurst trimmed the deficit to 36 after the third game, the Dukes kept the pedal to the floor over the final two, pulling away for an emphatic 1031-907 win in the quint Baker leg to clinch a third straight shutout win and secure the title.

Over the final two Baker games, Maribeth Baker, Ivanna Fraticelli and Miller slammed the door shut on Mercyhurst, each tallying three strikes in the four frames they bowled.

Duquesne’s lone previous appearance in an NEC final came last year in a 2-1 setback to FDU.

Ranked 20th in the latest NTCA poll, Duquesne will serve as the NEC's Automatic Qualifier for the NCAA Women's Bowling Championships. The Dukes will learn their tournament fate during the National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship Selection Show on Wednesday, March 25 at 4:00 pm.
