BACK-TO-BACK
FDU is back in the big dance for the second straight year. Last season, the Knights were also a 15-seed and took on No. 2 TCU.
TWO IN A ROW
FDU repeated as NEC champs this year after going unbeaten against conference foes in back-to-back seasons. Winning the NEC Tournament in the conference’s fourth year of sponsoring women’s basketball in 1990, the Knights hung another banner in the rafters in 1992. The Knights have won four NEC Tournament titles, which is second-most among current conference members.
KNIGHTS VS. HAWKEYES
This is the second all-time meeting between FDU and Iowa. The two squads previously met on 11/06/23 in Iowa City, IA. THe Hawkeyes defeated the Knights in the first match up.
FDU VS. THE BIG TEN
Against the 18 teams that currently make up the Big 12 Conference, FDU has faced three of those squads, including two in the season: Iowa (0-1), Purdue (0-1) and Rutgers (0-7). The Knights own a 0-9 record against Big Ten squads. FDU played both Purdue and Rutgers this season. The only common opponent FDU and Iowa share from this past season is the Boilermakers, who the Hawkeyes defeated on 02/19/26.
NEC VS. THE BIG TEN
Four other NEC teams faced off Big Ten teams this season, including Wagner (Rutgers), Mercyhurst (Michigan State), Le Moyne (Illinois) and Central Connecticut (Maryland). Big Ten squads won all match ups against NEC programs.
HISTORY LESSON
The Knights are the first NEC team to earn a No. 15 seed or higher in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments since Saint Francis in 2010 (#15) and 2011 (#13). FDU is also the first team to be a 15 seed two years in a row since SFU in 2003 and 2004.
KNIGHTS SLAY THE CONFERENCE SLATE
For the second straight year, FDU ran through conference slate to finish the season with a perfect 18-0 record. It marked the eighth time in NEC annals that a squad went undefeated against league opponents and just the second time a team has done it in back-to-back seasons.
COMPLETING THE RUN
Going 18-0 in the regular season and storming through the NEC Tournament with three wins by a combined 67 points, the Knights achieved perfection in the NEC in 2025-26 with a 21-0 record against league squads. They became the eighth squad to turn the trick and go undefeated against conference foes in both the regular season and the postseason. Monmouth (1988) is the only team to go undefeated in the conference regular season and come up empty in its pursuit of the tournament title. FDU also became the first NEC team to go unbeaten in back-to-back seasons and finish both seasons with a conference tournament title.
FOUR SCORE
FDU head coach Stephanie Gaitley, the NEC Brenda Reilly Coach of the Year, became just the fourth head coach in NCAA Division I history to coach four different teams to the Big Dance. The third-year FDU skipper, who will be making her 11th NCAA Tournament appearance as a head coach, accomplished the feat at Richmond (1990, 1991), Saint Joseph’s (1994, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000), Fordham (2014, 2019) and FDU (2025, 2026)
A SEASONED VETERAN
Stephanie Gaitley is no stranger to the spotlight of the NEC Tournament championship game. The NEC staple, who has combined for 11 years of head coaching experience in the league with prior stints at LIU and Monmouth, coached in her fourth title game in 2026. With FDU’s win over LIU on Championship Sunday, Gaitley added a ring from a NEC squad to her collection for the second time in her career.
