Bridgewater, NJ -- It was a clean sweep in the annual NEC Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year award voting by the league’s head coaches.
Veteran skipper
Eric Blake and his staff took home both the men’s and women’s NEC Coaching Staff of the Year honors after leading the Blue Devils to titles on both sides of the indoor circuit for the first time ever.
On the men’s side, this marks the fourth time and second consecutive year that Blake and his staff have taken home the award. For the women’s squad, the Blue Devil coaches have been tabbed NEC Coaching Staff of the Year four times in the last five seasons under Blake’s tutelage.
The CCSU men now have four NEC Indoor Track & Field titles to its name with all of them coming with Blake as the head coach. The Blue Devils racked up the points on the track with six gold medals and three silvers during this year's meet. They added another pair of top two finishes in the throwing events. CCSU totaled 141 points en route to back-to-back titles.
CCSU also claimed four of the six individual major awards with
James Sullivan (Redding, CT/Immaculate) as the Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance),
Lucas Figueiredo (Waterbury, CT) as Most Outstanding Track (Performer) and
Greyson Golda (Bethel, CT) earning Most Outstanding Field Performer (Throws) accolades for the second straight year.
In the women’s competition, the Blue Devils reclaimed their throne to make it four championships in the past five winters. CCSU has captured five Women’s Indoor Track & Field crowns with all but one coming with Blake at the helm.
The CCSU women had a number of top two finishes this past February, earning four golds and five silvers on the track with a second place showing in the long jump. CCSU racked up 139 points to clear the field by 47.5 points. Senior
Nuchwara Inthasit (Stonington, CT/Stonington High School) brought home an individual major award for the Blue Devils after attaining Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints) honors.
In addition, the conference’s men’s and women’s All-NEC first and second teams were announced along with the All-Rookie squads.
All-Rookie teams consisted of the highest finishing rookie in each event. For the men, Chicago State finished with the most rookie honorees with four, while LIU occupied a league-high four spots on the women’s squad.
