Preseason Poll Release
NEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Senior, Fairfield
Sr., F, Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep
In a rematch of the 2024 NEC title game, Senior was an offensive catalyst for the Stags in their 3-2 overtime win at Wagner on Friday. Down 1-0 early in the second quarter, Senior played an entry pass on the left side of the goal and fired the ball past the Seahawk goalie to the bottom right corner of the cage. Locked in a 2-2 stalemate, the two NEC preseason favorites battled into overtime where the veteran forward stepped up again. Off an entry pass from Catalina Ness, Senior rifled the ball from just inside the shooting circle into the bottom left corner for the golden goal. The two-time All-NEC pick has found the back of the cage four times for the reigning NEC champs, which ranks third in the conference. This marks Senior's second career NEC Offensive Player of the Week award with her first coming on September 6, 2023.
NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mia DiGenova, Saint Francis U
Jr., GK, King of Prussia, PA/Bishop Shanahan
Earning her second consecutive NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor, DiGenova anchored the Red Flash defense in a pair of wins. The junior keeper posted her third shutout of the season while making two stops in SFU’s 1-0 victory against Saint Louis on Sunday. The King of Prussia, PA native also boosted SFU to a 1-0 start in NEC play, turning away two shots in a 6-2 triumph over LIU two days earlier. DiGenova posted a 1.00 GAA last week along with a .667 save percentage. The veteran goalie’s three shutouts are the most in the NEC this season. This marked DiGenova’s fifth career NEC Defensive Player of the Week selection. SFU has won four of its last five games and are off to a 5-3 start this season.
NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Havana De Roeck, Stonehill
Fr., F, Brecht, Belgium/Vita et Pax College
In Stonehill’s exhilarating 4-3 overtime victory at Rider, De Roeck gave the Skyhawks a late 3-2 lead in the third quarter. Off a penalty corner, the freshman forward's shot from the top of the circle was initially blocked but De Roeck didn’t give up on the play. She settled the rebound and flicked it above the Rider goalie’s head to find the back of the cage. It marked De Roeck’s second career goal, which is tied for the most by a freshman in the conference this season. The Belgium native became the first Skyhawk to take home NEC Rookie of the Week honors since Emma McGrory earned the award twice a year ago.
