Wappingers Falls, NY -- Wagner staved off a comeback attempt from Stonehill to hold on for a 6-4 win and survive the first elimination game of the 2025 NEC Baseball Championship.

With the victory, the Seahawks' championship hopes remained alive as they advanced to Saturday night's elimination game at Heritage Financial Park.

Making its initial NEC Championship appearance, Stonehill wrapped its season with a 20-32 record.

Wagner (31-21) leftfielder Diego Tavarez led the way at the plate for Wagner with a 2-for-4 day, His RBI double off the right field wall in the sixth inning jumpstarted a two-run inning that gave the Seahawks extra insurance heading into the final three frames.

Entering in relief of starter Colin Trizuto with two outs in the sixth, Wagner sophomore southpaw Keith Davis shut down a Stonehill rally, inducing an Aidan Sengenberger flyout to right with runners on the corners after the Skyhawks had plated three to cut Wagner’s lead to 4-3. First team All-NEC selection Jack Thorbahn, who went 2-for-3 on the day, delivered a two-run single for the Skyhawks during the surge.

Wagner shortstop Nicholas Mazzotta legged out an RBI triple to open the scoring in the third, and catcher Xavier Ulrich doubled in a run in the fifth.

Wappingers Falls, NY -- A six-run seventh inning catapulted Central Connecticut to a nail-biting 8-6 win over top-seeded LIU, sending the third-seeded Blue Devils to their 11th NEC championship game in program history and earn longtime head coach Charlie Hickey his 800th career win.

The loss set the Sharks up with an evening elimination battle with in-state rival Wagner.

Trailing by a run, shortstop Brady Short ignited the seventh-inning surge that saw CCSU (30-14) send 11 batters to the plate. Short's single to left-center drove in Kyle Gordon - who went 3-for-5 on the afternoon - to tie things up at 3 apiece. Run scoring singles from Colby Brouillette and Aidan Redahan followed to make it 5-3. Leftielder Antonio Ducatellli drew a bases loaded walk and Gordon capped off the rally with a two-run single up the middle - his second hit of the frame - to build CCSU’s lead to 8-3.

The Sharks got one back in the bottom of the seventh, but CCSU escaped without further damage.

LIU (33-22) loaded up the bases on a pair of singles from Joe Durso and Mason Breton, followed by a Jacob Pipercic walk.

Starting pitcher Drew Munn's day ended after 6.1 innings, with Hickey calling on All-NEC reliever Wyatt Cameron, who was seeking his second save in as many days.

Durso scored off a wild pitch and Benjamin Fiernzi drew a walk to reload the bases, but Cameron held firm, retiring the side on Ryan Rivera's lineout to right.

The score remained at 8-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Battling control issues, Cameron walked four LIU batters in the inning, keeping CCSU fans on the edge of their seats. With the bases jammed, the Sharks cut the deficit in half when Rivera and Noah Sorensen drew walks. But Cameron got the last laugh as he struck out Max Samson to clinch the win.

Cameron supplied the Blue Devils with 2.2 innings of one-hit ball, persevering through a 59-pitch effort to secure the victory and record his second save of the tournament.

CCSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead early on Chris Brown's infield single and a Short sacrifice fly,

Durso took over at this point for LIU. The senior catcher cracked a two-run single in the second and solo homer in the fifth to give LIU a 3-2 lead, which they held until the decisive seventh inning.

Gordon and Redahan each paced the Blue Devils with three hits. Short finished with two runs and a pair of RBIs.

Munn collected his eighth win of the year, allowing four runs on nine hits.
