Williamsburg. VA -- The final round at the NEC Women’s Golf Championship delivered edge-of-your-seat drama from the opening tee shot to the final putt.
Locked in a two-team battle from start to finish, FDU and Howard traded the lead multiple times in a tense, back-and-forth duel at the par-72 Plantation Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA. When the last scorecard was signed, just a single stroke separated the two.
Starting the day four shots off the pace, FDU pieced together a gritty final round to edge Howard by the slimmest of margins, winning by just one stroke to tie for the closest finish in championship history. The win marked the Knights’ 10th NEC title - extending their own league record - and the program's first since a three-peat from 2018-21.
Howard earned its second straight runner-up honor.
While FDU (927) and Howard (928) pulled away from the pack, Saint Francis U (977) held onto third place on the final day, followed by NC Central (980) in fourth and a tie for fifth between LIU and Stonehill (984).
The race for the individual crown mirrored the team competition, with FDU and Howard again going head-to-head down the stretch.
After entering the day tied for the lead at 6-over par, Howard sophomore
Paris Fieldings (Chesapeake, VA/Enlightium Academy) separated herself from FDU senior
Apichaya Chirakunakorn (Chonburi, Thailand/American School of Bangkok) to win her first NEC crown.
Fieldings shot 5-over 77 on Sunday to finish at 11-over 227, capping her round with a birdie on the final hole. Chirakunakorn carded an 8-over on the final round, finishing at 14-over 230 to claim second place.
The Knights also placed a third golfer on the podium as graduate student
Anete Adul (Koogi, Estonia/Loo Secondary) posted the third top-10 finish of her career to secure third place, carding a 16-over 232.
FDU's
Michelle Yang (Sydney, Australia/Cammeraygal) shot the lowest round of the day (73) to climb seven spots into a tie for fourth with Howard senior
Kendall Jackson (Pearland, TX/Pearland), both of whom finished 17-over par 233. Yang was the top performing freshman at the meet. For Jackson, it represented her third top-five showing in four years.
Stonehill sophomore Helen Brodahl (Portland, OR/Ida B. Wells) surged five spots up the leaderboard with a 2-over 74 on Sunday, placing sixth at 18-over 234. Howard's Emily Mayne (Kingston, Jamaica/Windsor) finished in seventh, recording a 20-over 236 to complete her sophomore campaign.
Rounding out the top-10, FDU freshman Fiorella Franco Harder (Lambare, Paraguay), NC Central senior Trinity Ahing (New Bern, NC/New Bern) and Saint Francis U freshman Bryn Sorge (Richmond Hills, GA/Savannah Country Day School) all finished tied for eighth, shooting 21-ver 239. Ahing took sixth place at last year's NEC meet.
FDU will represent the NEC at NCAA Regionals, while Fieldings qualified as for NCAAs as an individual.
