Bridgewater, NJ — A trio of standout All-NEC football performers added Stats Perform All-America distinction to their ever-growing résumés on Wednesday.
Two-time defending champion Central Connecticut produced a pair of All-America Third Team members in redshirt sophomore defensive back
Chris Jean (Rochester, NY/Rochester) and senior linebacker
Jack Stoll (Lafayette, NJ/Pope John XXII), while Wagner rookie kicker
Nicholas Romero (Pembroke Pines, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) rounded out the honorees by taking home Freshman All-American distinction from the organization.
Central Connecticut has landed at least one Stats Perform All-American in each of the past two seasons, as Jean and Stoll join former Blue Devils defender Kimal Clark, who earned Third Team distinction as a defensive back in 2024.
Jean is no stranger to the Stats Perform All-America list, as the redshirt sophomore garnered Freshman All-America Team honors following a rookie campaign that also led to him being named the 2024 NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The Rochester, NY native earned his second consecutive All-NEC First Team nod after he topped the NEC charts with 17 passes defended behind league-leading totals in pass breakups (13) and interceptions (4). His 1.31 passes defended per contest are currently the sixth-most in the FCS. Jean finished his second campaign in New Britain with 69 tackles to rank fourth on the team, while his 52 solo stops were tied for the team lead.
Jean added even more accolade to his count earlier this month when he was named to the FCS Football Central All-America Third Team and the All-New England Team. He was also one of five NEC players to take home Associated Press (AP) FCS All-America Honorable Mention accolades earlier this week.
Stoll’s All-America nod comes three weeks after the linebacker received the NEC’s most prestigious individual defensive honor. The NEC Defensive Player of the Year quietly transformed into the cornerstone of a stingy Central Connecticut unit that was second on the circuit in scoring defense at 22.9 points per game. In 12 games, the senior racked up 52 solo and 39 assisted stops to lead the Blue Devils and rank third in the conference with 91 tackles. In addition, his team-leading 15.5 tackles-for-loss were second-best among NEC tacklers.
The Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award finalist also earned All-NEC First Team distinction for the second-consecutive year in 2025. Stoll joined teammate Jean as an AP FCS All-America Honorable Mention pick.
Romero made NEC history last month when he became the first-ever rookie kicker to walk away with All-NEC First Team distinction. In his Wagner debut, he was also the lone freshman in the league to ink his name onto the conference’s top squad.
Romero had an impressive debut on Grymes Hill, drilling 13-of-14 field goals for a .929 conversion rate that ranked second among all FCS place kickers at the conclusion of the regular season. In addition, the Floridian connected from 40 yards or further five times, highlighted by a season-long 44-yarder in a win at Saint Francis.
In addition to his Freshman All-America and All-NEC nods, Romero, who was a two-time NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office Rookie of the Week and a Special Teams Player of the Week honoree, was recently named to the FCS Football Central Freshman All-America Team.
Romero is the first Wagner freshman to earn the title of Freshman All-American since Jaylen Bonelli was recognized as one by FCS Football Central in 2023. With his honor, the NEC has landed at least one Stats Perform Freshman All-American in each of the past six seasons.
