NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Korrin Burns, Saint Francis U
Outside Hitter, Junior, Clarion, PA/Clarion Area
Last Week’s Stats: .267 hitting percentage, 5.86 points per set, 4.86 kills per set, 1.71 digs per set, 0.57 service aces per set, 0.57 blocks per set
Burns anchored a Saint Francis U attacking line that combined for a league-leading .224 hitting percentage en route to scoring a weekend sweep at the Red Flash Invitational. The Red Flash went 2-0 at their host tournament, scoring wins over Penn on Friday and Siena on Saturday. Burns had an outstanding week, leading all NEC players with 5.86 points and 4.86 kills per set while hitting .267 during that stretch. The junior outside hitter and Clarion, PA native’s weekend was highlighted by a near double-double performance consisting of nine digs and her first 20-kill outing of the season in a four-set triumph over Penn. She went on to contribute a match-high 14 kills against Siena, a straight-set triumph. Saint Francis U has now won three-in-a-row to even its record in non-conference play at 3-3. This is Burns’ third career NEC/Molten Player of the Week honor.

NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrea Calderon, Chicago State
Libero, Graduate Student, Lima, Peru/Peruano Chino Juan XXIII
Last Week’s Stats: 4.36 digs per set
Calderon becomes the first-ever women’s volleyball player from Chicago State to garner a weekly award from the NEC. The graduate student nabbed NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week honors after she led entire league in digs by a longshot with 4.36 per set. In three matches, Calderon totaled 61 digs to propel the Cougars to a 2-1 record at the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. Knocking off host-team Evansville in four sets before making it a Friday sweep with a five-set triumph over Miami (OH), Chicago State came just shy of a weekend sweep after dropping a 3-2 thriller to Samford in the tournament’s finale. Calderon registered a match-high 26 digs in Friday’s win over the Red Hawks before she posted another 20-dig effort (24) in the Cougars’ hard-fought defeat to the Bulldogs. On the season, the Peruvian is ranked third in the conference in digs per set (3.85), while her 77 total digs are also good for third.

NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

The redshirt freshman averaged 2.14 points, 1.57 kills and a team-high 0.86 blocks per set for the Red Flash, who elevated their non-conference record to 3-3 with the two wins. Irwin, a middle blocker/outside hitter, got her weekend going with a five-kill, three-block effort in Friday’s 3-1 victory over the Quakers. On Saturday, she tacked on six kills and three more blocks to help the Red Flash take down the Saints in straight sets. This is Irwin’s first NEC/Molten Rookie of the Week award.
