10/1/2024

NEC/Molten Player of the Week: Kylie Nott, FDU
NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week: Alasha Colon, LIU
NEC/Molten Rookie of the Week: Jordyn Hamlin, Le Moyne

Previous NEC Releases: September 24 | September 17 | September 10 | September 4 | Preseason Poll Release

NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kylie Nott, FDU
Outside Hitter, Junior, Rockwall, TX/Rockwall
Last Week’s Stats: .692 hitting percentage, 4.00 points per set, 3.00 kills per set, 1.67 blocks per set, 1.33 digs per set
Nott’s efficient performance against Saint Peter’s resulted in the outside hitter becoming the first NEC women’s volleyball player to take home an award from the NEC in back-to-back weeks this season. The reigning NEC/Molten Player of the Week averaged 4.00 points and 3.00 kills against the Peacocks to lead FDU to a straight-set victory, and its fourth-straight triumph. Most impressively, Nott, who hails from Rockwell, TX, hit at .692 clip on the evening after delivering nine kills with zero miscues in 13 total attempts. That attack percentage ties LIU’s Bria Plante for the best mark by an NEC player in a match this season. In addition, Nott racked up five-or-more blocks for the fourth-straight match after she accounted for five of the Knights’ seven rejections on the day. Nott enters league play ranked second in blocks per set (0.83), second in blocks (39) and third in hitting percentage (.310).

NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alasha Colon, LIU
Libero, Senior, Carolina, Puerto Rico/Academia Pesbiteriana (St. Francis Brooklyn)
Last Week’s Stats: 4.75 digs per set
Colon pushed her league-leading weekly award count to three after she notched 4.75 digs per set in LIU’s 3-1 defeat to Binghamton. The veteran from Puerto Rico compiled 19 digs to pace the Sharks in the defeat. Colon, who has set single-game best marks in digs in three, four and five set matches this season, enters NEC play as the league’s top libero. With a conference-best 239 digs, she also sits atop the statistics in digs per set with 4.69. LIU has had a stranglehold on the NEC/Molten Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award this season. The Sharks have claimed the honor four out of a possible five times, with Colon garnering the distinction on Sept. 4, Sept. 17 and Oct. 1, and graduate middle hitter Bria Plante claiming the award on Sept. 24.

NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jordyn Hamlin, Le Moyne
Outside Hitter, Freshman, Manahwakin, NJ/Southern Regional
Last Week’s Stats: 3.57 points per set, 3.29 kills per set, 1.86 digs per set
Hamlin became the first-ever Dolphin to take home an NEC/Molten weekly award after she contributed 3.57 points, 3.29 kills and 1.89 digs per set over a pair of matches last week. The Garden State product delivered double-digit kills against Binghamton (Sept. 24) and New Hampshire (Sept. 27). Hamlin highlighted that stretch with a career day against the Bearcats after she notched season-best numbers in kills (12), digs (8) and service aces (2) in the 3-1 defeat. The outside hitter leads LeMoyne in points per set (2.67) and kills per set (2.31), while her 1.81 digs per set are good for second on the squad.
