NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kylie Nott, FDU
Outside Hitter, Junior, Rockwall, TX/Rockwall
Last Week’s Stats: .433 hitting percentage, 3.71 points per set, 2.83 kills per set, 1.33 blocks per set
Nott got things done both offensively and defensively to propel a red-hot FDU squad to three straight victories this past weekend. During that stretch, the outside hitter posted a league-best .433 hitting percentage while averaging 3.71 points, 2.83 kills and 1.33 blocks per set for the Knights, who have scored wins in six of their past seven matches. Nott had a stellar outing in the opening match of the George Mason Invitational. Delivering nine kills while committing just one miscue for a .500 hitting percentage, she registered a career-high six rejections to lead the Knights past Gardner-Webb in straight sets (Sept. 20). Later in the day, the Texas product used a 12-kill, five-block effort to propel her team to a thrilling 3-2 triumph over host-team George Mason. In FDU’s weekend finale, a 3-1 win over Morgan State, the junior delivered a season-best 13 kills to solidify her spot on the George Mason Invitational All-Tournament Team. Nott enters the week ranked third in the NEC in hitting percentage (.288) and seventh in blocks per set (0.77). This is her first NEC/Molten Player of the Week honor this season, and the first for an FDU player.
NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bria Plante, LIU
Middle Hitter, Graduate Student, Alpharetta, GA/Alpharetta
Last Week’s Stats: 2.86 points per set, 1.79 blocks per set
Plante, the NEC’s top blocker, was nearly impenetrable against some stiff competition last week. A graduate student from Alpharetta, GA, she contributed 2.86 points per set against Seton Hall, Bryant, St. John’s and Iona last week after she led the conference with 25 total blocks and 1.79 rejections per set. Most impressively, Plante, who had four-or-more blocks in each of LIU’s four matches, committed just one blocking error during that stretch. Starting the week with back-to-back six-block efforts in respective 3-1 defeats to Seton Hall (Sept. 17) and Bryant (Sept. 20), she delivered a season-high nine rejections — the most by an NEC player in a three-set match this season — against St. John’s (Sept. 20). The middle blocker also chipped in offensively for the Sharks, compiling 24 kills, including nine in a straight-set win over Iona that saw her hit .692 with no miscues. She is the only player in the NEC averaging more than 1.00 block per set (1.26), while her 59 total blocks are 21 more than the next closest competitor in the league. With Plante’s honor, LIU has landed an NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week recipient in three of four weeks, as senior libero Alasha Colon took home the distinction on Sept. 4 and Sept. 17.
NEC/MOLTEN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Angela Marchetto, FDU
Middle Blocker, Fr., Treviso, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Jacopo Da Ponte
Last Week’s Stats: 1.44 blocks per set, 1.39 points per set
Marchetto took care of business against George Mason (Sept. 20) and Morgan State (Sept. 21), and as a result, she helped lead FDU to a 3-0 record this past weekend at the George Mason Invitational. The Italian-born middle blocker totaled 13 blocks and averaged 1.44 rejections per set in the respective 3-2 and 3-1 victories. Marchetto had a solid all-around outing against the Patriots on Friday, registering three kills and zero errors for a .429 hitting percentage while adding six blocks. On Saturday against the Bears, she posted a career-best seven rejections to secure the weekend sweep for the Knights, who have won six of their past seven matches. Marchetto is the first FDU player to secure NEC/Molten Rookie of the Week honors this season.
