A regular suspect in the NEC women’s lacrosse postseason along with a new face have completed the field for the semifinals of the NEC Women’s Lacrosse Championship after securing First Round victories on Sunday afternoon. In a back-and-forth battle, sixth seeded Wagner knocked out third-seeded Le Moyne to punch their sixth-straight ticket to the conference semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, fourth-seeded Stonehill erased an early deficit and dropped No. 5 Saint Francis U in its first-ever NEC postseason date to move on to the round of four.

Following reseeding of the bracket, the Seahawks will square off with No. 1 Sacred Heart in a rematch of last year’s NEC Championship match on Thursday at 1 pm. Stonehill is set to take on No. 2 LIU later in the afternoon at 4 pm. Both semifinal contests will air on NEC Front Row and ESPN+.

Syracuse, NY -- The First Round of the NEC Women’s Lacrosse Championship featured one upset on Sunday, as sixth-seeded Wagner (6-10) scored a thrilling 13-11 victory over third-seeded Le Moyne (9-9) on Ted Grant Field in Syracuse.

Senior midfielder Kelsey Scheidel and junior attack Sophia Colver led the Seahawks with three goals apiece, but it was graduate student Megan Greco who provided the late heroics that propelled Wagner to its sixth consecutive appearance in the conference tournament’s semifinals. With 3:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, the attacker followed Colver’s go-ahead score with a crucial insurance tally that made it 12-10.

Sarah Hutchings slashed the deficit down to one for Le Moyne with exactly one minute to go on the clock with an extra-player opportunity but Greco silenced any chance of a late Dolphins’ comeback bid and sealed the deal with a point-blank shot with just five seconds left to play.

Sunday’s game featured a pair of wild momentum swings to start. With Le Moyne taking an early 3-1 advantage, Wagner got hot and rifled off six straight scores in a run that extended into the second quarter to go up by a 7-3 count. But the Dolphins wouldn’t trail for long, as Reilly Geer and Reagan McQuade contributed four goals to a 5-0 rally that put Le Moyne in front by one at the break.

Following a tame third quarter that featured an exchange of scores between the sides, Le Moyne took a 10-9 edge on a Grace Detor goal with 13:03 left. But that lead proved to be the final one for the home squad, as the Seahawks scored four of the game’s final five goals to earn the win.

Geer finished with a hat trick for Le Moyne, which concluded its first season as an NEC member with a 9-9 overall record and an 8-2 mark in conference play.

Easton, MA -- Fourth-seeded Stonehill (9-8) made a statement in its first-ever postseason game as an NEC member, as the Skyhawks downed No. 5 Saint Francis U (8-8), 19-14, at W.B. Mason Stadium in Easton on Sunday.

A stretch of seven unanswered goals to bridge the first and second quarters followed by a flurry of three more scores before halftime proved to the be the game-deciding blows that propelled the Skyhawks to a date with No. 2 LIU in the NEC Championship’s semifinals on Thursday.

The Red Flash rode the coattails of a red-hot sophomore attack Bella Fisher, who delivered three of her game-best six goals within the game’s first eight minutes. Saint Francis U was virtually unstoppable out of the opening whistle, as graduate student attack Lizzie Fisher, senior midfielder Danielle Hernandez and junior midfielder Victoria DiRenno also found the back of the net to make it a 6-0 lead with 5:17 to go.

But the tides quickly changed and the Red Flash ran out of steam. Backed by a solid defensive effort that kept Saint Francis U off the scoreboard for nearly an entire quarter of game time, Stonehill rallied for seven-straight scores to take a 7-6 advantage with 8:29 left until halftime.

The Red Flash ended their scoring drought and tied things up at the 4:39 mark of the second quarter, but the Skyhawks regained momentum. Closing out the half with three unanswered scores to go up 10-7 at the break, junior midfielder Sofia D’Agostino opened the third quarter with a goal just 50 seconds in to stretch the lead to four. Things continued to roll offensively and Stonehill remained in control for the remainder of the game with the lead growing to as many as six four times in the final quarter.

A quintet of Skyhawks notched hat tricks to pace the league’s top scoring team to another monstrous lethal offensive performance. Sophomore attack Grace Murphy found the back of the net five times, with her first two scores of the game sparking that crucial 7-0 run.

Senior attack Molly Mae Hughes delivered four goals, while Lilly Leach, a senior midfielder who also found the back of the net four times for the Skyhawks, led all players with 10 draw controls. Sophomore attack Natalie Coutu (3 goal) and D’Agostino (3) rounded out Stonehill’s hat tricks.

Fisher added four dimes to her game-leading six goals for 10 points , which is a single-game-best performance by any NEC player in 2024
