Austin, TX -- As the last NEC student-athlete left competing this spring, FDU triple jumper
Salif Mane (Bronx, NY/Bronx High School for Medical Science (Lincoln University (MO))) made sure he ended the year with a flourish.
Competing at the 2023 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, TX, the junior finished fifth in his signature event with a 16.46 meter jump to pick up first team All-America honors.
In doing so, he added to his surefire NEC Hall of Fame resume.
It marked the third first team All-America honor of the Bronx native's career, which established a new NEC record. His four overall All-America honors only trails the all-time conference standard of seven set by former LIU sprinter and future Olympian Brendon Rodney from 2013-16.
Mane achieved second team All-American status in the triple jump at the 2022 NCAA outdoor meet. He's also a two-time first team indoor All-American, having finished seventh in 2022 and second in 2023 when he uncorked a personal-best 16.79 meter jump.
Competing at Mike A. Myers Stadium, Mane fouled on his first two attempts, then produced a 16.20 meter jump in the third round to move into sixth place. He reached 16.35 meters on his fourth attempt and his 16.46 mark on his fifth jump moved him into fifth place. Mane fouled on his sixth and final attempt.
Arkansas freshman phenom Jaydon Hibbert won the event with a 17.56 meter leap, which stands as the fifth longest jump in the world this season.
Mane was the meet MVP at the NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May and was also the Most Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps).
