Bridgewater, NJ -- It was a big weekend in NEC women’s bowling with two teams having impressive performances in their respective tournaments.
Saint Francis U took down the defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Vanderbilt at the UMES Hawk Classic in Woodbridge, VA. The Red Flash defeated the Commodores by a score of 1,053-999. SFU had a slim lead over the Commodores through four games but after maintaining only a 10-pin margin, the Red Flash would go one to throw six straight strikes in the fifth game.
Their win over Vanderbilt was the second top-20 win for Red Flash of the day as they also defeated No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Also at the Hawk Classic, Duquesne made program history in Baker play on Friday. The Dukes rolled its first 300 Baker competition in school annals with a lineup of Ranelle Ulanday, Morgan Brookover, Maribeth Baker, Shannon Small and Kiearra Saldi. Their perfect game came in a 1,100-1,055 win over No. 19 Central Missouri.
This is Duquesne’s second perfect game in program history with the first one coming on January 20, 2018, at the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, PA. Former Duquesne bowler Olivia Farwell posted a 300 against Medaille.
All eight NEC teams will face off again on December 2 & 3 at NEC Meet #2 in Muhlenberg, PA.
