Emmitsburg, MD — The dominance continues.

One year after coming out on top in both the indoor and outdoor men's championship, Wagner made it a double sweep on Sunday. Compiling 152 team points, the Seahawks nudged Mount St. Mary's to capture the 2022 Northeast Conference Outdoor Men's Track and Field Championship, which was held on the campus of Mount St. Mary's.

It marks the fourth straight track and field title that the Seahawks have hauled in, having previously won the 2021 indoor, 2021 outdoor and 2022 indoor crowns.

Wagner held a five-point lead over the Mount heading into the final event of the day, but easily secured the team victory after claiming first in the 4x400m relay. It was the fifth gold medal of Championship Sunday for the Seahawks, and their sixth overall of the championship.

Mount St. Mary's finished in second place with 141 total points, while Central Connecticut placed third with 111 points. Rounding out the top four was Fairleigh Dickinson, which totaled 89 points to edge LIU (88.50).

Senior William Cuthbertson (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) and sophomore Jason Marchese (Staten Island, NY/Saint Joseph by the Sea) each added to Wagner's gold medal count on Sunday. Cuthbertson broke the tape in 3:52.51 in the 1,500m race, while Marchese raced to a time of 52.86 in the 400m hurdles to take top-billing.

The Seahawks, who also finished on top in the 4x800m relay, received a much-needed boost in the 5,000m race. Trailing Mount St. Mary's heading into the event, they posted a two-three finish with Jean Uminski (Paris, France) and Robert Guidicipietro (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) claiming the final two spots on the podium.

Runner-up Mount St. Mary's collected a chunk of its points on the track on Sunday. Graduate student Colin Kelly (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) raced to a time of 1:53.62 in the 800m to take home gold, while graduate student Richard Gilchrist (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) won the 110m hurdles after clocking in at 13.93. After landing the top-four finishes in the pole vault to collect 29 team points in the process on Saturday, senior Dylan Lanoue (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) tacked on another gold for the Mountaineers in the high jump after clearing 2.01m.

Central Connecticut's Eddie Nicholas (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) had three dominant performances to earn both the NEC Most Outstanding Distance Performer and the prestigious Most Valuable Performer awards. Opening the championship with a victory in the grueling 10,000m race on Saturday, the junior added 15 more points to CCSU's team total after winning the 3,000m steeplechase and taking fourth in the 5,000m race.

Fairleigh Dickinson landed a pair of major award winners, both of which struck gold twice for the Knights.

Sophomore Salif Mane (Bronx, NY/Bronx High School for Medical Science (Lincoln University)), who dominated horizontal jumps at the 2022 indoor championship, added two more first-place finishes to his already impressive resume. Landing a jump of 16.10m to break his previous NEC Championship record that was set in 2021, he extended his outdoor triple jump title run to two with that impressive leap. Mane, who also won the long jump on Saturday, was tabbed the Most Outstanding Field Performer in the jumps.

Ako Hislop (Scarborough, Tobago/Bishops) rounded out the major award winners for FDU by earning Most Outstanding Track Performer honors in the sprints. The senior pulled off the sweep of the dashes, earning first in both the 100m and the 200m.

Junior Nickolas Hyde (Somerset, PA/Somerset) from Saint Francis U was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer in the throws, while Elyas Ayyoub (Constantia, South Africa/Bishops Diocesan College), who was tabbed the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer of the 2022 indoor championships, repeated as this year's top rookie at the outdoor championships for LIU.
