New Haven, CT -- The Sacred Heart University men's golf team concluded its 2021-22 season on Wednesday at the NCAA New Haven Regional. The Pioneers wrapped up the tournament in 14th place at the Yale University Golf Course.
Sacred Heart posted a 54-hole score of 913 (309-301-303) – 36 strokes better than its last trip in 2011 - to finish behind the host Bulldogs. Seventeenth-ranked Wake Forest won the regional with a score of -21 followed by North Carolina.
"We've got a young team so hopefully this is a good building block for the future," SHU head coach Matt McGreevy said. "Our guys got to see what the next level looks like so hopefully it will motivate them over the summer and into next fall."
Rookie Blake Moreno got better every day and he carded the low round of the day (72) for a three-day score of 227 (80-75-72). Also posting a 227 (73-79-75) was classmate Jonah Camarillo after the second-best score of the last round.
First-year Eoin Freeman recorded four-straight birdies on the back nine to record a 78 for his 227 (74-75-78). In his final collegiate tournament, senior Nathan Kim finished with a 54-hole score of 232 (82-72-78). Junior Shane Richardson was a stroke better than Tuesday at 78.
McGreevy should have another squad in 2022-23 that can get back to the regional as he returns five of the six players who competed in this year's tournament.
