Smithfield, RI - Saint Francis U took control on Saturday and continued to add onto its lead throughout Championship Sunday.

The Red Flash piled up 195 points to capture the program’s first NEC Outdoor Track & Field women’s crown since 2005. In the process, they accounted for the highest meet team score since Sacred Heart tallied 195.5 points in 2015.

Twenty-four and one-half points came courtesy of Saint Francis U sprinter Mylan Crews. The native Ohioan struck double gold in the 100m and 200m dashes and added a gold and a silver in the relays.

Crews’ inspiring performance resulted in two major individual awards for the junior. In addition to the NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints) award, Crews picked up the meet’s Most Valuable Performer (MVP) honor.

Following Crews’ lead, SFU junior Jalurah Moore totaled 14.5 points in the sprints. Mount St. Mary's veteran Najae Nickerson was a double winner in the hurdles (100H, 400H).

A pair of Red Flash freshmen accounted for double-digit point totals during the two-day meet.

Freshman Madeline Murphy picked up 13 points in the horizontal jumps with a silver in the triple jump and a fourth-place long jump finish. MacKenzie Walker scored 11 points on the track, completing a 10K-5K double. After taking silver in Saturday’s 10,000m run, Walker snagged sixth-place points in Sunday’s 5,000m race.

The top outdoor freshman performance came from Central Connecticut’s Brooke Morabito. En-route to winning the NEC Most Outstanding Rookie Performer Award, Morabito grabbed gold in the 10K and was the runner-up finisher in the 5K.

The only CCSU Blue Devil to score more than Morabito was decorated distance runner Angie Rafter. The former NEC Cross Country individual champion breezed through the grueling steeple chase-5K distance double, striking gold in both events on the way to the NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) Award.

Meanwhile, Emily Lunger (high jump), Taylor Weaver (pole vault) and Sara Phelan (javelin) all struck gold for SFU out in the field.

Wagner’s Tiffany Hanna scored the most individual points in field events. Spearheaded by her win in the discus, the veteran thrower totaled 23 points and won the NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer (Throws) Award.

LIU senior Stephanie Esogenwune exceeded the 40-feet mark while winning the triple jump. The veteran Shark also tied for second place in the high jump and earned the NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps) Award in the process.
