Fayetteville, PA – For the first time since 2004, the Northeast Conference (NEC) men's golf trophy was held high by LIU.
In a three-way race for the title that went down to the final hole, LIU freshman
Jan Rybczynski (Poland) sank a pressure-filled 16-foot putt to secure the Sharks' two-stroke win.
The event was contested at the Penn National Golf Club Founders Course in Fayetteville, PA.
Shooting a 897 over the 54 holes, LIU edged Sacred Heart (899) by two strokes and FDU by six strokes. LIU and FDU had entered the final round tied for the lead with SHU two strokes back.
It marked the second title in program history the Sharks, who had all four of their scoring golfers finish in the top-15.
Bryant claimed the fourth spot (915), followed by Mount St. Mary's (941), St. Francis U (942) and Wagner (960) ended in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Sacred Heart's
Saptak Talwar (New Delhi, India/International Junior Golf Academy) became the fifth player in NEC history to become a two-time winner of the individual title, finishing seven shots clear of the field, shooting a three-under 213. His 54-hole score tied for the third-lowest in championship history. Talwar, who won the individual crown as a freshman in 2018 and finished fourth in 2019, joined FDU's Dennis Toomey (1990-91), Greg Harold (1991-92) and Tom Crist (1993-94), and Monmouth's Anthony Campanile (2005, 2008) as repeat champions. Talwar was the only golfer to fire a sub-70 round - he shot a 69 on Saturday - and recorded a championship-best 40 pars made, to go along with nine birdies.
