Sacred Heart Punter Noah Gettman Named National Special Teams Player of the Week

4/13/2021

Fairfield, CT -- Sacred Heart University junior punter Noah Gettman may be the unsung hero for the SHU football team. After a record-breaking performance in the Northeast Conference Championship game, he was named Stats Perform National Special Teams Player of the Week.

It's the first national honor for the Daytona Beach, Fla. native after two NEC honors this season. During Sunday's 34-27 win over Duquesne to earn the NEC's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship, Gettman set SHU single-game records with a 56.7 yards per punt average and an 82-yard punt.

SHU's first scoring drive was set up by an 82-yard punt bomb - the second-longest punt in conference history - that flipped the field from the SHU nine-yard line to the Duquesne nine-yard line. The Pioneers' defense got a three-and-out then scored on their ensuing drive.

Through four games, Gettman is averaging 46.4 yards per punt, which is more than six yards better than Jamie Ross' single-season school record of 40.08 set in 2015. It would also set the conference record.
