NEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RYAN WARD, BRYANT
So., OF, L/R, 5-11, 199 lbs., Millbury, MA/Millbury
WEEK 9 STATS:
.545 BA (12-for-22), 4 2B, 2 HR, 2 BB, 9 RBI, 7 runs, 1.000 slugging pct.
Ward, an All-American Second Teamer as a rookie, bumped his batting average up 32 points to .371 last week. The left-handed swinging outfielder recorded multiple hits and at least one RBI in all five games. He logged extra-base hits during all five starts en-route to a 1.000 slugging percentage. Leading a lineup that averaged 11.0 runs per outing, Ward batted .545 (12-for-22) with four doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored. He doubled in his first at-bat of the week, leading off a mid-week battle at UConn with a two-bagger and coming around to score the game’s first run two batters later. One day later, Ward went 4-for-5 in an 11-7 triumph over Ivy League member Brown. The 5-foot-11 outfielder logged six hits and seven RBI during the Bulldogs’ three-game weekend sweep of America East member Hartford. He belted a three-run bomb in the third inning of the series opener, an 8-5 triumph. Ward went deep again in Game 2. His fifth-inning solo blast came three frames after he delivered a two-run double that gave Bryant an early 4-1 lead in an eventual 15-4 victory. Ward broke a 3-3 tie in the second inning of the series finale, shooting a RBI double into the right-centerfield gap.

NEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
NICK TORRES, LIU BROOKLYN
Fr., RHP, 6-0, 180 lbs., Etowah, GA/Etowah
WEEK 9 STATS:
2 app., CG SHO, 0.93 ERA, 9.2 IP, 1 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K
Torres took the ball for the middle leg of a three-game set on Staten Island and proceeded to torment Seahawk hitters during a complete-game 5-0 victory. The rookie right-hander surrendered only four singles over 9.0 innings of work. Following a leadoff single in the fifth inning, which was quickly negated by a strike-him-out-throw-him-out double play three pitches later, Torres did not permit another hit the rest of the way. The 6-foot freshman walked no one and recorded five strikeouts. Facing just three batters over the minimum, Torres needed 102 pitches to complete the gem. The shutout victory over Wagner doubled as a bounce-back effort, coming only three days after Torres’ abbreviated relief appearance against Big East member St. John’s. Protecting a 6-5 lead in the fifth frame, Torres recorded two outs, but was charged with three hits and one run.

NEC CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
NATE BRODSKY, FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
Fr., SS, R/R, 5-11, 170 lbs., West Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast
WEEK 9 STATS:
4 app., .500 BA (8-for-16), 2 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 3 runs scored
Brodsky recorded eight hits, including his first career grand slam, during the Knights’ three-game sweep of NEC rival Mount St. Mary’s. The Florida-born freshman kick-started a pair of multi-run innings during Friday’s series opener, a 14-8 triumph over the Mount. Brodsky doubled leading off the third inning and eventually came around to score the first of five FDU runs in the frame. With FDU looking to pad its 9-8 lead, Brodsky’s bunt single led off a five-run eighth inning. Highlighted by a walk-off single to centerfield, the first-year Knight went 5-for-5 with five RBI in the middle game of the weekend series. Brodsky’s first clutch hit of the day came with two outs in the fourth frame in the form of a grand slam to center. He struck again with two outs in the ninth inning of a 10-10 game, connecting on the game-winning single. Brodsky opened the scoring for FDU in the series finale, sending a RBI single to right field to start a seven-run barrage.

NEC CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
THOMAS BRAMLEY, MOUNT ST. MARY’S
Fr., C/DH, L/R, 5-10, 180 lbs., Hershey, PA/Lower Dauphin
WEEK 9 STATS:
4 starts, .588 BA (10-for-17), 4 2B, HR, 3 BB, 4 RBI, 3 runs, 1.000 slugging pct.
Bramley enjoyed a breakout week at the plate, recording extra-base hits in four consecutive contests. The rookie recorded multiple hits in each of Mount’s four games while slugging 1.000. He started two games behind the dish and two games as the team’s designated hitter, compiling a .650 on-base percentage over that stretch. Bramley batted .588 (10-for-17) with four doubles, his first career home run, four RBI and three runs scored. The first-year Mountaineer scored one run in each of the Mount’s three tussles with NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson. He reached base safely nine times during the three-game set. He went 3-for-5 at the plate in Saturday’s 11-10 setback before doubling and homering during Sunday’s series finale.
