East Meadow, N.Y. -- Bryant University will bring the 2019 NEC Women’s Swimming & Diving trophy back to Smithfield, defending its 2018 title with 863.5 total points.

Jillian Rice won gold in every event she competed in to claim the NEC Swimmer of the Meet.  A multiple time Swimmer of the Week honoree, the senior finished off her career by racking up three individual gold medals (50 free, 100 free, 200 free) and four relay golds.

The Outstanding Diver of the Meet was awarded to Wagner’s Adrianna Warning, after she won gold on the 3 meter board to go along with a silver medal in the 1 meter competition.

A second Seahawk to garner a major award, Wagner’s Ellie Eastwood won the 400 IM and placed second in the 200 breaststroke to collect 2019 Rookie of the Meet.

The final major award of went the Bulldogs Coaching Staff Katie Cameron and Chuck LoCurto. Bryant finished with 13 victories and a total medal count of 22.  In diving specifically, the Bulldogs collected four of the six possible medals on the 1 and 3-meter boards collectively.

Central Connecticut reeled off two big nights to close the event as the Blue Devils ended Day 4 with 600 totaL points.  Saint Francis U followed in third (485.5), Wagner in fourth (473.5) and LIU Brooklyn coming in at No. 5 (377).  Sacred Heart finished sixth (283.5), St. Francis Brooklyn seventh (270) and Mount St. Mary’s rounded out the rankings in eighth (152).

To begin the night, Ana Paula Montes de Oca became the first St. Francis Brooklyn swimmer to win a gold medal since Marina Short in 2004.  The sophomore touched in at 17:00.91 to surpass the field in the 1,650 freestyle.  Even after swimming in the mile, she competed in both the 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay A-finals.

Sacred Heart’s Margaret Flaherty also enjoyed a highlight moment of the night when she earned a 1,650 silver medal.  The sophomore placed second despite not being in the race's final heat of the night.

Bryant’s Alyssa DiFiore finished with the bronze in 17:21.34 for her third individual medal of the meet.

Bryant’s duo of Alaina Scifo and Rice continued their impressive performances this week with wins in the 200 back and 100 freestyle, respectively.

Scifo clocked in at 1:58.81 for her second individual victory.  LIU Brooklyn’s Amanda Peren touched in at 1:59.28 for her fourth overall medal of the meet.  Alexis Fredricks collected another medal for the Blue Devils with a bronze time of 1:59.39.

Rice’s dominance this week began and ended with the freestyle events.  Already a winner in the 50 and 100 frees, she touched the wall at 50.21 in the 100.  CCSU’s Jennette King was another freshman that impressed at the Championship, finishing in 50.86 for the silver and her second individual medal.

Sabrina Bowman was a big reason for SFU’s third place result in the team standings, coming in at third with 100 free time of 51.05.  Despite a severely injured shoulder, she medaled in all three of her individual events.

Bryant’s Heather Wong put her finishing touches on the breaststroke events, as she followed up her Friday night gold medal performance in the 100, with a victory in the 200.  The Rookie of the Meet, Eastwood, followed up Wong’s mark of 2:17.87 with a 2:18.29 time of her own. Mackenzie Lawson earned the bronze at 2:19.27 to register points for the Red Flash.

Next up on the docket was the 200 butterfly.  The defending champion in the event, CCSU’s Val Gomez, outperformed her 2018 performance by almost two seconds to claim gold yet again.

LIU’s Noemie Lacroix-Moreau placed second when she touched the wall at 2:03.88, and SFU’s Jessica Rupp followed that up with a time of 2:06.51.

The last event of the night was fittingly capped off with a 400 freestyle relay win by the Bulldogs.  After having its gold medal streak in relays end Friday night, the Bulldogs finished first in 3:23.72 behind Alexa Rivera, Scifo, Alyvia Beaudion and Rice.  CCSU and SFU followed in second and third, respectively.
