Emmitsburg, MD - It all clicked for Central Connecticut this weekend and the result was a fourth consecutive Northeast Conference men's outdoor track & field team title.

The Blue Devils scored 146.5 points over the two-day championship meet that featured 21 events, holding off runner-up LIU Brooklyn (134). Meet host Mount St. Mary's took third place with 124 points.

"There were some rough spots this year, but we came together and had our best meet of the season today," said a visibly proud Eric Blake, who is in his eighth season as CCSU's head coach.

Central Connecticut athletes did not capture any of the post-meet individual awards, but they did combine for 10 medals, including golds from Sam Borecki (pole vault), Austin Trainor (steeple chase) and Tyler Latham (javelin).

Middle distance runner Joe Gioielli picked up 18.25 points for CCSU. The senior snagged silver medals in both the 800m and 1500m races, twice finishing as the runner-up to Sacred Heart's Trevor Guerrera.

The Blue Devils' depth proved to be the difference against LIU, which featured a pair of major award winners.

LIU Brooklyn senior Adam Walker-Khan won the long jump on Saturday, notching his fourth straight NEC outdoor title in the event. After settling for third in the triple jump, an event he won last spring, on Sunday, the British-born Blackbird posted a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles. His 24 points were enough to earn the Most Valuable Performer honor.

Caleb Williams earned the "Fastest Man in the NEC" title, clocking in at 10.44 to lead a 100m dash field in which all eight sprinters posted IC4A qualifying times on Sunday. Williams also took silver in the 200m dash and ran the second leg of the Blackbirds' triumphant 4x100m relay performance en-route to the NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints) award.

Mount St. Mary's freshman sprinter Justin Kimble finished second to Williams in the 100m dash. Kimble, who also scored in the 200m in front of the hometown crowd, captured the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer award.

Saint Francis U's Bryce England was a double winner in the long distance events. Posting two IC4A qualifying times, the SFU harrier struck gold in the 5K and 10K while running his way to the Most Outstanding Track Performer (distance) award.

Wagner's Devon Jones, who dethroned Walker-Khan in the triple jump, earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer (jumps) accolade. The senior also finished as the runner-up to his Verrazano Bridge rival in Saturday's long jump competition.

More than one-third of Fairleigh Dickinson's team point total came courtesy of senior thrower Mark Ramsey. He earned gold in the shot put and discus on the way to grabbing the Most Outstanding Field Performer (throws) honor.
