Teaneck, N.J. – Head Coach
Gary Puccio and the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball program announced the Knights' 51-game, 2018 schedule on Thursday afternoon.
The 2018 slate features 20 home games to be played at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
"This is a challenging schedule that will help us move forward as a program," said Puccio. "We are extremely young this year with a roster consisting of 23 underclassmen out of a total 29 players. However, this team reminds me of our 2012 team – if they can get past the learning curve early enough, we have a shot at returning to the NEC playoffs."
This year's schedule begins with three games at the Mule Mix Classic against three Nashville-based schools. The Knights will square off with three, first-time opponents beginning the season on Friday, February 23 with their first-ever meeting against the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State. On Saturday, February 24 the Knights square off with Belmont before closing the weekend on Sunday against the host Lipscomb. All three games will be played at Dugan Field.
After a single game against Lafayette on March 6, the Knights return to Naimoli Family Baseball Complex for the 2018 home opener on Wednesday, March 7 against perennial powerhouse St. John's.
A four-game series at Delaware State follows (Mar. 9-11) before the team travels to Hofstra for a single game on March. 13
The team's second home game of the season will take place on March 14 against La Salle and then four games against University of Pennsylvania are set for March 16 and 17. The Knights will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Quakers in a doubleheader on the 16
th before the teams travel up the turnpike to Teaneck to play a doubleheader at Naimoli on St. Patrick's Day.
Northeast Conference action begins with a three-game series at the defending conference champion Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (Mar. 23-25). The No. 2-seed Blue Devils, who had the Knights' number last season sweeping the four-game series, topped the fourth-seeded Sacred Heart Pioneers in last year's NEC Championship.
The Knights' first home NEC series closes out March and concludes on April 1 with a three-game stretch against LIU Brooklyn.
After LIU, the Knights take a break from NEC play with two midweek non-conference tilts, on the road at Siena (Apr. 3) and home against Iona (Apr. 4). Next, the team faced UMBC for three games on April 7 and 8 in Baltimore.
The Knights return to NEC action with a four-game homestand against last year's regular season champions, Bryant (April 12-14)
The team's longest road stretch of the season begins on April 20 and features four games aginst Mount St. Mary's, one tilt at Saint Peter's and concludes with a four game-series at Wagner (Apr. 27-29).
The Knights then close out the home portion of their schedule with eight-straight home matchups against Sacred Heart (May 4-6), Central Connecticut State (May 11-13) and Saint Peter's (May 15). The game against the Peacocks of Saint Peter's will also serve as this year's senior day.
The 2018 slate concludes with a three-game road series at LIU Brooklyn (May 18-20).
"Our fans and alumni are the best in the conference and I anticipate that they will enjoy watching this team," Puccio added.
