Des Moines, IA -- Monmouth University rising junior thrower Vincent DuVernois (Springfield, Pa. /Springfield) earned All-American Second Team honors after finishing 16th in the javelin at the NCAA Division I Championships on Wednesday afternoon.
DuVernois, who threw 224’2" (68.34m), becomes the first Hawk to earn All-American accolades since Tisifenee Taylor (long jump) in 2007, and the first for the men’s team since Bobby Smith (javelin) in 2007. He is also the only sophomore in school history to earn Division I All-America honors.
"The javelin was a great competition, with a lot of very big throws,” said MU head track and field coach Joe Compagni. “We are very proud of Vince. To make it here as a sophomore and to put up a mark close to his best is very impressive. He represented Monmouth very well."
DuVernois was the first sophomore to qualify for the NCAA’s this year. The Springfield, Pa. native, who was one of two athletes from the Northeast Conference, is the first male athlete MU has put at the NCAA’s since Larry Lundy in the shot put in 2009.
Next up for MU is the USA Championships and the USA Junior Nationals June 23-26 at the University of Oregon.
