Budapest, Hungary - Long Island University senior Richard James (Portland, Jamaica) took home a gold medal Sunday in helping Jamaica's 4x400 meter relay team win at the World Indoor Track & Field Championships.
James raced in Jamaica's semifinal heat, which it won in 3:08.70. The team also consisted of Sanjay Ayre, Leroy Colquhoun and Michael McDonald.
The 13-time Northeast Conference champion did not race in the final, but still is presented a gold medal. Colquhoun, McDonald, Davian Clark and Greg Haughton competed in the final.
This adds to what has been another impressive season for James. He won individual NEC indoor titles last month in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, and also competed for the victorious 4x400 meter relay squad.
James, a two-time winner of the NEC's Outstanding Indoor Track Performer award, finished his indoor career as a six-time champion. James won the 400-meter dash for the third-consecutive season, was part of the gold-medal winning 4x400 relay squad for two-straight years and took home his first 200-meter crown. The senior set NEC meet records in both the 400-meters (47.09) and 200-meters (21.59).
