Jones, who set a new single-game conference record with 242 yards against Stony Brook last week, became the first player in NEC and Albany history to post back-to-back 200-yard rushing outings with a 16-carry, 211-yard performance in the Great Danes’ 28-7 win over Wagner in Staten Island on Saturday. Jones, who gained 176 yards in the first half alone, tied a league record with four rushing touchdowns (41, 8, 28 and 7 yards) and totaled 264 all-purpose yards on the afternoon. He also set a school career scoring record and moved into third place on the NEC list with 228 points. In just his second season in an Albany uniform, the 2002 All-American boosted his career rushing total to 2,698 yards, second at Albany and third on the NEC’s all-time chart. Jones trails only Robert Morris’ Sam Dorsett among active league players in career yardage and ranks first in the conference in 2003 with 1,189 yards, 1,322 all-purpose yards, 7.6 yards per carry, 15 touchdowns and 90 points. He stands fifth nationally in scoring, eighth in rushing and 21st in all-purpose yardage. The Ravena, NY native is an eight-time NEC Player of the Week honoree, leaving him tied with Monmouth’s Chris Reed for second in league annals behind Rick Sarille, who was a 12-time winner while playing for Wagner from 1996-99.
