Jones, the reigning NEC Offensive Player of the Year, established a new NEC single-game rushing mark with a spectacular performance in Albany’s 40-7 win over Stony Brook on Saturday. The senior tailback carried the ball 27 times for 242 yards and three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving), eclipsing the previous mark of 222 yards set by CCSU’s Stan House on November 2, 1996. Jones became the first Great Dane runner to reach the 200-yard mark since 1984, as he raced to the second highest single-game rushing total in school history behind Tom DeBlois, who gained 286 yards vs. Springfield on November 15, 1975. He sped into the end zone with a 48-yard run on Albany’s second play from scrimmage and gave the Great Danes a 20-0 lead on the first possession of the second half with a 38-yard touchdown scamper. Jones also reached paydirt on a 37-yard screen pass in the fourth quarter. With his effort on Saturday, the Ravena, NY native established school career records for rushing touchdowns (33) and touchdowns scored (34) in a career, and tied Greg Garrett's all-time scoring standard with 204 points. A three-time NEC weekly award winner this season, he also moved from eighth to third on the NEC’s career rushing list with 2,487 yards.
