In his first collegiate game, Meekins provided Long Island with a tremendous lift off the bench in the Blackbirds’ 64-63 win over Hartford on Saturday. Meekins drained 5-9 shots from three-point range and finished the contest with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes of play. His 12 points, including three consecutive treys, keyed a 14-5 first half run that turned a 14-point deficit into an eventual one-point lead at intermission. A Providence, RI product, Meekins joins teammate Esa Maki-Tulokas as the NEC’s first two Rookie of the Week honorees of the 2003-04 season.
