Monroe’s award is his second in as many weeks after leading Quinnipiac to the tri-championship at the Hawaii-Hilo Classic over the holiday weekend. Monroe, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, averaged 21.7 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting .489 from the floor (12-23) and .429 from three-point range (12-28). After tallying 15 points and six assists in an 89-70 loss to Rider in Friday’s opener, he came back with 14 points and four assists as the Bobcats defeated Dartmouth, 65-64, the following evening. In the final game on Sunday, Monroe exploded for a career-high 36 points, including 6-11 shots from beyond the arc, tied a career-best with seven boards and added five assists in an 85-74 triumph over host Hawaii-Hilo. The Lanham, MD native has excelled in tournament play throughout his career having been tabbed the MVP of the Hofstra Tournament last year, along with earning All-Tournament honors at the 2002 NEC Tournament and the FIU Tournament a week ago.
