James staked his claim as one of the league's top performers so far this season, becoming the third swimmer to earn back-to-back NEC Swimmer of the Week nods. The Durham, NC native recorded a trio of top two finishes and a CSCAA "B" cut time to boot. James' "B" cut result came in Howard's 200 medley relay win. The sophomore swam a 23.72 backstroke opening leg, the league's second fastest 50 back time of the year. James would race the 50 back again later in the meet, clocking the league's 4th best time with a 23.82 result. James capped off his day with a runner-up finish in the 50 fly, clocking a conference-best 22.80 result.
