Fairbanks closed out her sophomore season in Brooklyn by making it an NEC Pitcher of the Week repeat. In four appearances, the sophomore hurler racked up one win and a save to help LIU to a perfect 4-0 record last week in a stretch that included a pivotal NEC sweep of Mercyhurst. With those three triumphs, the Sharks claimed the regular season title for the second time in as many years. In three of her four appearances, the Ocean State product did not allow an earned run while in 10.0 total frames, she calculated just two. Tossing one scoreless inning as part of an LIU 14-1 win over Saint Peter’s on Tuesday, Fairbanks nabbed her NEC-leading third save of the season after throwing 3.0 frames in Saturday’s series opener with the Lakers, a 9-8 victory. She came up clutch later in the nightcap in a win that clinched at least a share of the regular season crown. Coming out of the bullpen, Fairbanks kept Mercyhurst off the scoreboard for the final four innings of an eight-inning contest to guide the Sharks to the pivotal 4-3 walk-off triumph. Fairbanks also went to work in Sunday’s pivotal series finale, as she helped LIU lock up the top seed in the NEC Tournament by tossing two innings of a 7-0 win. Against league foes this season, Fairbanks, who ranks second with 10 victories, sported a league-best 1.68 ERA in 62.1 innings.
