Gouveia’s award spree continued into the seventh week of the NEC women’s lacrosse season. For the fifth time this season, and the second time in as many weeks, the first-year midfielder was pegged the NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday. Gouveia had a busy week on both ends of the field, racking up five goals, four ground balls and 18 draw controls to lead Stonehill to a perfect 2-0 record in NEC competition last week. With the triumphs, the Skyhawks improved to 3-1 in conference play, a mark that is tied with four other squads for second place in the league standings. Netting one goal in Wednesday’s mid-week affair against Central Connecticut, a 20-7 win, the North Stonington, CT added five draw controls and three ground balls. Gouveia got back to her scoring ways on Saturday at Mercyhurst, pumping in four goals for the second time in three games to lead the Skyhawks to a 23-8 victory. It marked her sixth hat trick of the season, and the third-straight game that Stonehill eclipsed the 20-goal mark in a win. In addition, she won 13 draw controls against the Lakers. Gouveia’s 25 goals this season are good for second on the team, while her 29 points and 11 caused turnovers rank third and second, respectively.
