Gomez was dominant at the plate as FDU went 4-1 during a five-game homestand last week. The sophomore shortstop went 11-for-18 at the plate while driving 11 runs and scoring 14 more himself. Gomez cracked three homers and smacked a pair of doubles along with drawing seven walks. In a mid-week victory over Manhattan, he was a perfect five-for-five at the plate with three runs and four RBIs. Gomez added two of his home runs against the Jaspers. The Coral Springs, FL native had another standout performance in game two of the Knights’ conference series against Coppin State as he batted .600, while scoring two runs and driving in one more. He also scored four runs in FDU’s nail-biting 13-12 series finale victory over the Eagles on Sunday. Gomez finished the week with a 1.912 OPS off a 1.222 slugging percentage and a .690 OBP. The Knights won all three games against Coppin State - improving to 5-1 in NEC play. FDU scored a program record 81 runs during last week’s five-game stretch. This is Gomez’s second career NEC Player of the Week award and first of the season.
