Last Week’s Stats: .223 hitting percentage, 5.69 points/set, 5.38 kills/set, 2.25 digs/set
Burns put up chart-topping numbers this past weekend to lead Saint Francis to a split with NEC foe FDU. Averaging 5.38 kills per set for the 10th-best clip in the nation last week, the Clarion, PA native got it done on both sides of the ball with 5.38 kills and 2.25 digs per set during that stretch. On Friday, Burns, a veteran outside hitter, compiled her 21st career double-double and powered the Red Flash past the Knights in come-from-behind fashion with 26 kills and 13 digs. She was just as solid on Saturday with 17 kills, five digs and a pair of blocks in the 3-0 setback, which marked the first for the Red Flash in league play this season. With this week’s honor, Burns is now tied for third in conference history with 10 NEC Player of the Week awards. In addition, this is the 13th time she has received a weekly award from the conference. She enters a pivotal week that features a tilt with Mercyhurst on Wednesday and a weekend set with undefeated LIU ranked among the nation’s top 10 in several categories, including total kills (406 – 3rd), kills per set (5.27 – 3rd), points per set (5.68 – 6th) and total points (437.0 – 8th).
