Atkins’ contributions this past weekend helped lead Saint Francis to a 2-1 record at the program’s host event, the Altoona Grand Red Flash Classic, and the first NEC/Molten Rookie of the Week nod for a Red Flash player this season. The first-year right-side hitter from Morristown, NJ contributed to both sides of the ball with a .267 hitting percentage, 2.15 digs, 1.85 kills and 0.38 blocks per set. In addition, Atkins combined for five service aces during the three-match tournament. Her weekend was highlighted by what proved to be a career day for the rookie against Siena on Friday. Compiling a career-high 12 kills on .310 hitting, she fueled the Red Flash to the 3-2 win after adding three service aces, eight digs and a pair of blocks.
