Sanders had a solid week at the plate that included a standout performance in Mercyhurst’s three-game series at Stonehill over the weekend. Combining to go 7-for-11 against the Skyhawks while sending four of her hits for extra bases with two doubles and a pair of homers, the Pittsburgh product accounted for nearly half of Mercyhurst’s 16 runs on the weekend after collecting five RBI and scoring two times. Sanders, who registered at least one hit in each of the three NEC games, had an explosive outing in the nightcap of Friday’s doubleheader. She went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, launched a three-run home run, doubled and drove in another run on a base hit to lead the Lakers to the 8-5 triumph. The first-year first baseman also doubled in the series opener on Friday. She became the second Mercyhurst rookie to garner NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season. She joins Mackenzie Gillis, who took home the award on Feb. 18. This season, Sanders leads the Lakers with a .298 batting average, a .719 slugging percentage, a .467 on-base percentage, 12 runs, six doubles, six homers and 16 walks.
