Rooney became the second Seahawk in the past three weeks to garner Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining Ryan Murphy, who earned the distinction on March 24. The junior defender combined for nine ground balls and eight caused turnovers in a 1-1 week that saw Wagner improve to 4-1 in NEC play with a win against Le Moyne on Saturday. After opening the stretch by causing three turnovers and collecting three ground balls in a non-league game against local foe Columbia, the Ontario product racked up six ground balls and five caused turnovers to lead the Seahawks past the Dolphins, 11-7, on Saturday. The six ground balls matched a season-best effort set in February at Lafayette, while the five caused miscues marked a career-best performance for the third-year Seahawk. Rooney ranks among NEC leaders in both categories. She is fourth in the circuit in caused turnovers per game (1.50), sixth in caused turnovers (15), seventh in ground balls per game (2.50) and 10th in ground balls (25).
