Coutu has been a hat trick machine as of late. Turning the twice last week and in each of her past three outings, the junior attacker led Stonehill to a pair of victories over Sacred Heart on Wednesday and Mercyhurst on Saturday after she totaled nine goals in that stretch. A native of Brookline, NH, Coutu went off for four goals, including back-to-back scores in the third quarter to make it an 11-6 lead, in her team’s eventual 13-11 triumph against the Pioneers. She had an even more explosive outing against Mercyhurst on Saturday. Tickling the twine five times while adding five ground balls, she propelled the Skyhawks to a commanding 18-10 win against the NEC newcomer. With the triumph, Stonehill extended its streak to three games while preserving its undefeated record in conference play at 2-0. Coutu enters the week ranked fourth in the league in goals per game (2.44), tied for fourth in assists per game (1.14) and fourth in points per game (2.89), while her 22 total goals are tied for second-most in the circuit. With this week’s award, her first of the season, she became the second Skyhawk in as many weeks to earn the distinction from the NEC, joining Grace Murphy.
