Just like fellow teammate Julia Trainor, LIU senior Mylie Norton doubled her NEC weekly award count with her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Thanks to her stellar play between the pipes, LIU came away with back-to-back victories over MAAC opponents Manhattan and Iona last week. Norton held each of those opponents to single-digit goal totals for a 6.78 goals-against average during that stretch. In addition, making 15 saves, she made stops on 51.7 percent of the shots she faced. On Wednesday, the reigning NEC Tournament MVP turned away six shots to help the Sharks pull off a 10-9 overtime victory against the Jaspers. The Edgewater, MD native was even more impressive in Saturday’s win against Iona. Limiting the Gaels to just six scores, she posted a season-best .643 save percentage after rejecting nine of the 23 shots she faced. On the season, Norton leads all NEC netminders with an 11.52 goals-against average, while her .446 save percentage is good for third in the conference.
