Newkirk became the second Bison this season to garner NEC Rookie of the Week honors, joining fellow classmate Leah Croom who took home the award following the first week of the season. Newkirk was sensational in each of Howard’s two games last week. On Wednesday against Radford, the attacker notched one goal and caused the first turnover of her career. Against George Mason on Saturday, Newkirk was even more impressive. Collecting a season-high four ground balls, she went off for a career-best five points behind the strength of her first career hat trick to lead all Bison in scoring. On the season, Newkirk ranks second on the team in goals (8) and points (10), while her two assists are good for first on the squad.
