Culver was sensational in her NEC debut, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in Chicago State’s first two games as a league member. In her first-ever conference game, the Queens product went 4-of-9 from the field, 2-of-4 from three and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe to finish with 13 points in a hard-fought defeat to Wagner on Thursday. On Saturday, Culver keyed a late Cougars’ comeback and led her team to their first-ever NEC win by way of a 64-59 overtime decision over visiting LIU. Forcing the extra session by delivering the game-tying bucket with 33 seconds left in regulation, the rookie guard secured the win with a key layup with 1:24 left to play in overtime. Dropping five dimes while registering three steals, she tied fellow Cougar Josie Hill for a team-high in scoring with 15 points in the triumph. Culver is second on the squad and ninth in the conference in scoring with 12.1 points per game, while her team-leading 2.5 assists per contest are good for eighth in the league. This is her first NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office Rookie of the Week award, while the weekly award is the first-ever for a Chicago State player.
