Last Week’s Stats: 5.40 digs per set, 1.40 assists per set
Colon, the two-time reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Year, adds another feather to her cap with her league-leading fourth NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week selection of the season. The veteran libero had another outstanding stretch for a red-hot Sharks team that rode an eight-match winning streak into the week. Racking up 54 total digs in LIU’s 2-1 week, Colon averaged 5.40 per set to pace all NEC players. The Puerto Rico native got her week going with a bang in a non-conference tilt at UAlbany on Tuesday. She matched the conference’s season-best total in digs for a three-set match after tallying 19 to propel the Sharks to a 3-0 victory. Colon was just as impressive on Friday in the first of two pivotal league matches with FDU. Tallying a match-high 21 digs, she added eight dimes to lead the Sharks to their 10th-straight win by way of a 3-1 final over the Knights. LIU stumbled in three sets on Saturday, but despite the defeat, the postseason-bound squad can finish either third or fourth in the NEC rankings. Colon enters the final weekend of the regular season ranked first in digs with 4.67 per set.
