Vesco becomes the third Red Flash hurler in as many weeks to garner NEC Pitcher of the Week accolades. The graduate student’s arm propelled her team to the third undefeated conference slate in NEC annals after she helped lead the Red Flash to a three-game sweep of Merrimack this past weekend. Vesco was lights out in her two starts. Going the distance in each of those contests, she kept the Warriors off the scoreboard for 14.0 total innings to push her league-leading shutout total to six. In addition, Vesco, who racked up 23 strikeouts, held the Warriors to a .093 batting average after she scattered just four hits and five walks. The highlight of her weekend came on Sunday. Striking out a career-high 15 batters, she propelled Saint Francis U to a thrilling nine-inning, 1-0 win that sealed the deal on the perfect league slate. The Red Flash’s ace has not given up an earned run to an NEC opponent since March 30 against LIU, a stretch of 52.0 innings. She leads the loop with a 1.17 ERA and a .127 opposing batting average while her 17 wins and 178 strikeouts are good for second in the circuit. This is Vesco’s fourth NEC Pitcher of the Week award.
