Araneo capped off an impressive offensive performance by providing the heroics in overtime to lead Sacred Heart to a pivotal 11-10 victory over Wagner on Saturday. The sophomore attacker from Merrick, NY led all scorers with six points after she racked up four goals and dished out a pair of assists. Araneo, who piloted the Pios to the NEC championship in 2023 after she delivered the game-winning goal in the final seconds of regulation against Wagner in the title game, came up big once again for her team on Saturday. The sophomore called game just 35 seconds into overtime to propel Sacred Heart past Wagner with its seventh-straight victory. Saturday’s win put the Pioneers in prime position to repeat as NEC regular season champs, as a victory against Central Connecticut on Wednesday will secure at least a share of the crown and the top seed in the postseason. Araneo, who rides an 11-game goal-scoring streak into Sacred Heart’s regular-season finale, has scored multiple goals in each of her past seven contests. She ranks second on the team in both goals (31) and points (37). This is Araneo’s first NEC Player of the Week award this season.
